NATIONAL U/22 FINALS RESULTS

Amy Broadhurst claimed her second successive National U/22 title – and her 16th Irish belt overall –  at Dublin’s National Stadium tonight.

The Dundalk southpaw, also the current European U/22 champion and World Elite quarter-finalist at light-welter, beat Bella Hughes in the lightweight decider at the home of Irish boxing.

“I’m absolutely delighted with how I boxed, first round wasn’t relaxed enough but when I relaxed it all started to flow! Delighted with it all,” said the Elite World No.8 ranked leftie.

Meanwhile, John Paul Hale edged Colm Murphy on a 4-1 split in last weekend’s Ulster Elite bantam final, but Murphy reversed that decision on a 4-1 split verdict after another fiery 56kg clash tonight.

David Oliver Joyce (Ballymun BC) is the new U/22 lightweight titlist after outpointing defending champion Patryk Adamus (Drimnagh BC) after a lively all Dublin 60kg dust-up.

Stylish Limerick southpaw Paddy Donovan, a World Junior finalist, and European U/22 finalist Aoife O’Rourke retained their belts and Elice Elliot and Pierce O’Leary also won.

Gabriel Dossen, who will enter the National Elites for the first time next month, retained his middleweight title – and secured his 6th Irish belt into the bargain – on a unanimous decision over Dublin’s John Joe Nevin in one of the big fights of the night.

“I thought it was a very good bout,” said Dossen Olympic BC coach Mike Mongan.”Gabriel boxed very well against a good opponent and it was a good performance all around. A great start to the year.”

Courtney Daly, Regan Buckley, Adam Hession, Keylan Cassidy and Kevin Sheedy, who retained his heavyweight belt and completed a double for Limerick, also won.

Gytis Lisinskas, with a first round KO, had his hand raised in victory from the 44th and final bout of the 2018 National U/22 Championships.
