MEDICAL ADVICE FROM EUBC

Dear Boxing Friends,

I am very pleased to bring to your attention the valuable advice provided by the EUBC Medical Commission Chair, Dr Ioannis Filippatos, to prevent the possible transmission of the coronaravirus. Since many of our boxers, coaches, referees and judges travel around the world to participate in international boxing competitions, Dr. Filippatos, who is a great specialist and a great human resource of our sport, has prepared synthetic, but realistic guidelines to avoid any opportunity to be in contact with this dangerous virus:

1. Use surgery or dentist masks when you are in crowded places.

2. Wash often hands with water and soap.

3. Use often antibacterial wet wipes

4. Avoid public transportation, malls, theaters, cinemas, elevators, etc.

5. Avoid being close to people that sneeze and cough.

6. Avoid salutations by kissing and hugging.

7. Drink a lot of water and liquids (tea, fresh juices, etc.), approximately 2 lt per day.

8. MANDATORY use of VIT C 500-1000 mg per day for 7 days and continue the use from day 8 VIT. C 150-200 mg for at least 14 days

I hope you will follow these tips and the health of our boxing world will be protected.

With my best Regards,

Franco Falcinelli

EUBC President

STRANDJA MULTI-NATIONS UPDATE

Ireland took home two medals from Europe’s oldest multi-nations in Bulgaria.

Kellie Harrington (silver) and Aoife O’Rourke (bronze) finished in podium positions at the 71st edition of the Strandja multi-nations in Sofia.

Ireland finished 6th in the rankings tables at the 29-nation tournament and 10th in medals table.

Harrington was shaded on a 3-2 split decision in today’s lightweight final by Finland’s Mira Potkonen.

Potkonen also won the Best Female Boxer Award. Ukraine’s Oleksander Khyzniak claimed the Best Male Boxer Award.

Today’s final was Harrington’s first fight back since injuring her hand in last June’s European Games in Minsk.

Remarkably, the Dubliner won three fights out of four this week on her return to competitive action for the first time in almost eight months.

All of Harrington’s bouts were against Europeans in a tournament which also featured the USA and North African and Middle Eastern nations.

Team Ireland are due to arrive home via Dublin Airport tomorrow morning at 10.4am via Dublin Airport.

HARRINGTON EDGED OUT IN STRANDJA FINAL

Kellie Harrington had to settle for silver at the Strandja multi-nations in Sofia, Bulgaria after losing on a split decision to Mira Potkonen this afternoon.

The aggressive Finn won the lightweight final 3-2 to take the gold medal after three tight rounds at the Sofia Hall.

Harrington’s combinations, particularly in the second round and at the start of the third, impressed.

Potkonen probably won the first frame and Harrington the second. The third was even but the European champion got the nod over the 2018 World titlist.

Harrington, in her first tournament back since injuring her hand at the European Games last June, won three of her four fights in Sofia this week.

All of her victories were over Europeans and a tournament featuring America and North African nations.

The Dubliner and Roscommon Aoife O’Rourke (bronze) finished in podium positions for Ireland at the 71st edition of Europe’s oldest multi-nations.

The Irish squad are due to arrive home tomorrow morning, January 26, at 10-45am via Dublin Airport.
