ELITE SCHOOLGIRL TRAINING

Elite Schoolgirl Squad training for Girl 1 and Girl 2 Champions from 2019, plus any Girl 2 Cadet Champions in 2019, will take place Sunday the 20th of Oct @ 11am to 3.30pm.

Venue: High-Performance Gym National Stadium.

All boxers taking part are asked to bring their full training gear including good quality 16oz sparring gloves, bag gloves, headguard, wraps, gumshield, skipping rope. water for two sessions and a change of clothes.

EINDHOVEN BOXCUP UPDATE

 

 

Elite champion Kieran Molloy scored an outstanding win in the last eight of the Eindhoven BoxCup in the Netherlands today.

The Oughterard BC welter beat England’s current Elite champion, Harvey Lambert, to advance to the semi-finals.

Molloy will now meet either Danny Meyer of Germany of Dutch orthodox Sammy Wagensveld for a place in Sunday’s finals tomorrow.

Adam Hession, Grainne Walsh, Sean Purcell, Tony Browne, Ken Doyle, Christian Cekiso, Cian Cassidy, Ryan O’Rourke and Haghighat Sara Joo are also flying the flag for Ireland’s clubs in Eindhoven.

Walsh beat France’s Sedia Sanogo this afternoon in the women’s Elite 69kg class.

Boxing began today in Eindhoven.

 

 

NATIONAL SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS OPENING SESSIONS

Jude Gallagher has put in the hard hours for the National Senior Championships.

The Two Castles BC flyweight meets Monkstown BC (Dublin) stand out Sean Kavanagh for a place in the last four of the tournament tomorrow.

Boxing begins at 12pm and will feature an all Cork three-rounder between Callum Walsh and Ryan McCarthy at light-welter.

Twenty eight bouts will be decided on Day 1.

Gallagher reckons there has been a noticeable improvement in his performances over the last number of weeks.

“This is my first time competing at senior level and my preparation has been first class, he said.

“I’ve had a great win against a European silver medalist from Russia (Alexey Shendrik) two weeks ago at the Smithfield Box Cup and had a fight in Hull last weekend against a top English lad at a weight above me.

“The improvement from one week to the next was massive. I’ve also had top class (outing) against the Youth Asian champion from India this week in Edenderry.”

Bradon McCarthy is also in action Saturday. The St Michael’s Athy man meets Star BC prospect John Paul Hale in the first of the lightweight quarter-finals.

Dublin’s Careron Bennett and Cork’s Aaron O’Donoghue get proceedings underway in the opening bout of the Championships.

Two female quarter-finals will be resolved, with Jennifer Lehan and Tiffany O’Reilly going head-to-head with Catherine Blaney and Kellie McLoughlin at featherweight.

Saturday’s weigh-ins – 8am to 9am and 12pm to 1pm at the National Stadium.

All subsequent weigh-ins are from 8am to 9am and 12pm to 1pm at the National Stadium on the day of each session.

NATIONAL ELITE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2020

Venue: National Stadium, Dublin.

Dates: November 15th, 16th

November 18th 20th 22nd

Entries: Medical Record Cards and a non–refundable entry fee of 30 Euros must be sent in with the pre-entry form before the closing date of Monday, November 11th. Only boxers for whom entries have been received will be allowed box. Entries must specify club, weight division and date of birth. All boxers who wish to be considered for National Elite teams must enter these championships in accordance with the High Performance Unit selection policy.

Draws: Wednesday, 13th November, 12pm in the National Stadium.

The draw is being conducted on the basis of pre-entry only.

Seeding will be in operation.

Weigh-in and Medical: Boxers will weigh in each day they box. A medical will be performed on each boxer on their first day of competition.

Weigh-in dates: November 15th 8.00am to 9.00am & 12.00pm to 1.00pm

November 16th 8.00am to 9.00am

November 18th 8.00am to 9.00am & 12.00pm to 1.00pm

November 20th 8.00am to 9.00am

Age Requirements: Boxers born between 1980 and 2001.

It is a condition of entry that all competitors and officials have a signed Waiver/Members Acknowledgement Form and adhere to any agreement made with the Association sponsors.

Males must be clean shaven at the weigh-in and upon entering the ring for their contest.

Anti-Doping may be carried out at any stage of the championships and all boxers must advise the doctor of any medication they are taking or have taken in the preceding 4 weeks. It is imperative that all boxers adhere to the Anti-Doping Rules and Regulations. For any queries regarding this matter, boxers/coaches should contact Mr Larry Morrison, IABA Anti-Doping Officer on 086-0292476.

Non Pregnancy Declaration forms must be signed.

Attire: Boxers shall have one red and one blue vest. Boxers must not wear long sleeved shirts under vests. Hair must be tied back and swimming hats or hairnets should be worn under the headgear for females. No red, orange or pink gum shields are allowed.

Coaches: They must wear track suits and runners at all sessions and endeavour to set a high standard of hygiene in the corners. No shorts, caps or hats are allowed.

Sportsmanship: All decisions must be accepted in a sporting manner. Any complaints must be addressed to the Chief Official, Mr.Stephen Connolly. Please show respect to all Ringside Officials. A document stipulating requirements in relation to conduct and the use of social media must be signed by all boxers and coaches at their initial weigh-in.

Please note that, under AIBA rules, boxers who are engaged in ‘Other Physical Contact Sports’ are not eligible to compete. For more information please visit www.aiba.org.

Ed Griffin reports

Well folks what a fantastic weekend of boxing at this year’s Esker All Female BoxCup 2019. Nearly 200 bouts/exhibitions from Underage to Elite level took place with less than 10 inside the distance decisions. 18 countries from across 3 continents took part and over 122 clubs. Of the 430 registered boxers we had about 330 weigh in and actually box, a record for the tournament. A lot of work and preparation goes on throughout the year leading up to the weekend and preparation has already started for 2020’s edition.

There are so many people to thank so if we forget you we’ll edit the post as names come back. First of all thanks to all of the boxers and coaches who made it such a memorable weekend of female boxing. A huge thanks to all of the tournament sponsors including Accura Diamond Tools, South Dublin County Council, Dublin City Sports and Wellbeing Partnership, Ronan Cullen, City Drain, Cllr Shane Moynihan, Cllr Alan Hayes, Kenny’s of Lucan, Danny O’Brien plus many more..
