Female Elite and Youth athletes will box for the first time over three, three-minute rounds at the National U/22 Championships which begin at Dublin’s National Stadium on Friday week, January 13th.

The International Boxing Association announced before Christmas that the rules governing the duration of women’s Elite and Youth bouts were changed and that females, who had previously boxed over four, two-minute rounds, would now fight over three, three-minute rounds, the same duration as Elite and Youth males.

The rule change, effective December 19th, 2016, means that women will box a round less but a minute longer.
