“Derry” good. Brett McGinty, coaches, family and friends after tonight’s win

Brett McGinty claimed the welterweight title after beating Paul Ryan in the 69kg decider; the only final resolved this evening.

McGinty, Oakleaf BC, Derry, has now won eight Irish belts.

Meantime, the remaining finals will be decided tomorrow.

Saturday’s weigh-ins – 8am and 9am. Boxing begins at 1pm.

The IABA are using the U/18 Championships as part of their selection process for November’s AIBA World Youth Championships in St Petersburg, Russia.
