UZBEKISTAN DOMINATES IN TASHKENT

 

Uzbekistan completely dominated the 29th Asian Championships which concluded in Tashkent, Uzbekistan at the weekend.

The Uzbeks claimed nine gold and one silver at the tournament and will have a full compliment of ten boxers at the World Elite Men’s Championships in Hamburg, Germany in August/September.

The Continental Championships are the only qualifiers for Hamburg.

Tashkent had 60 places on offer for Hamburg.

The African Championships begin on May 27th in the Congo, followed by the Americas Championships in Honduras in June and the European Championships in the Ukraine between June 16th and 24th.

The Oceania Championships in Australia in late June completes the qualifying process.

280 boxers will compete at the World Championships. 260 places are available through the qualifiers, with the remaining 20 places going to the host nation (10) and wild cards (10).

Europe has 80 places up for grabs through the Ukraine, the highest quota of all the continents. The top eight (quarter-finalist) boxers in each weight in the Ukraine qualify for Hamburg.
