WALSH CRUISES INTO LAST 16 AT WORLD ELITES

Michaela Walsh (red)

Michaela Walsh made it three wins out of three for Ireland at the World Women’s Elites in Ulan-Ude, Siberia today.

The Belfast feather beat Mali’s Carmara Fatoumata on a landslide unanimous decision to join Cavan’s Ceire Smith and Cork’s Christina Desmond in the last 16 in Russia.

Final scores – 30-25,30-25,30-25,30-25,30-26 to Walsh.

The brave but mostly outclassed West African took a standing count in the third from a right with Walsh, occasionally switching to southpaw, repeatedly finding the target with head and body shots and avoiding most of the incoming.

She’s now meet Russia’s Liudmila Vorontsova on Tuesday morning for a place in the quarter-finals.

Ulan-Ude-native Vorontsova beat Germany’s Ramona Graeef today.

Meanwhile, Dundalk lightweight Amy Broadhurst faces top Germany’s Youth prospect Maya Kleinhans in the last 32 tomorrow.

Former Irish coach Eddie Bolger, the current German coach, will be working Kleinhans corner.
