WARD WEIGHS IN FOR WORLD QUARTER-FINAL

Irish captain Joe Ward weighed-in this morning ahead of tonight’s World Elite quarter-final with No. 6 seed Mikhail Dauhaliavets of Belarus.

Both light-heavyweights will be in the ring at approximately 7.30pm (Irish time) this evening.

The meeting is a repeat of the 2015 World Elite and 2015 European Elite quarter-finals which Ward won on unanimous decisions in Qatar and Bulgaria.

Ward, the No. 3 seed in the 81kg class, impressively beat Georgia’s Iago Kizira in his opening bout in Hamburg last night.

31 nations will compete in today’s quarter-finals.All winners will be guaranteed at least bronze.

Tomorrow is a rest day at the 19th edition of the tournament.
