WHITECHURCH BC IMPRESS AT BRISTOL BOX CUP

BRISTOL BOX CUP 2019

Whitechurch Boxing Club’s team of seven boxers arrived home this week from the recent Bristol Box Cup with four golds, two silver and one bronze. Boy 1 46kg Marty Maughan also picked up the Best International Boxer Award for the Dublin unit after a fabulous performance against a top English prospect from High Wycombe BC a year older in his Final. Marty bossed the action throughout, landing strong backhands and controlling the ring.

Evan Wallace (or Wallace Evans as he was announced!) was clinical in his final, stopping a good strong English boy from Factory BC in the second round to claim the title at Boy 2 44kg. Jack Kelly and Emma Harding were just pipped in two evenly matched finals to take home silver whilst Aaron Creighton put on a great performance in his semi-final to unfortunately lose out on a very close decision but takes home bronze for his efforts.

Aaron Downey and Freddie Rumling, unfortunately, were both denied bouts through pull-outs but picked up gold each by walkover. Both lads will take the title as a reward for their hard work in preparation for the tournament.

The team and coaches would like to thank Craig and Jo Turner of Downend ABC and everyone at the Bristol Box Cup for their hospitality and extend a massive thank you to Fiona Hollowed for organising the flights and accommodation for the team.
