Lauren Kelly went out of the World Youths at the last 16 stage in Budapest, Hungary this afternoon.
The Irish female captain was beaten on a unanimous decision by French middleweight Tallya Brillaux, the 2018 European Youth bronze medallist
Earlier, Daina Moorehouse lost out in her bid for at least bronze in the Hungarian capital.
The Bray light-fly, the current European Youth champion, was beaten on a unanimous decision – 30-27,30-27,30-27,29-28,29-28 – by Thai orthodox Nillada Meekoon, the 2018 Asian Youth finalist, in the quarter-finals.
In a close and clean contest, the battle of the backhands was crucial with both women finding the target.
Moorehouse, who won the first round on the unofficial cards, landed the cleaner and more solid punches throughout, particularly at the start of each frame, but the hard-working Thai, who finished out the last two rounds strongly, got the nod from the judges.
Big performance from Moorehouse in an extremely close contest.
Irish male captain Jude Gallagher is now the only Irish boxer remaining in the tournament.
The Tyrone light-fly, who is guaranteed at least bronze following his impressive quarter-final win yesterday, meets Thailand’s Thitisan Panmod on Tuesday for a place in the 49kg final.
“I thought I won very comfortably and didn’t see any other opponents, but I’ll just take it one fight at a time,” said Gallagher after his victory.
