6 Ireland boxers to vie for medal upgrade at the European Youth Championships.

Ireland’s medal tally at the European Youth Championships in Croatia has risen to 6, following the final day of Quarter Finals.

63.5kg Ryan Jenkins assured himself of at least a bronze, following his5-0 win over Greece’s Emmanouil Fotiadis. Judges scored the bout 26:29; 26:29; 26:29; 25:30; 25:30. Bout 6 of Ring B’s Evening Session, 71kg Tadhg O’Donnell stepped between the ropes to contest against Armenia’s Marat Mikaelyan, and finished the bout with a podium place following a UD. Judges scored the bout 28:29; 27:30; 28:29; 27:30; 27:30.

48kg Scott Thompson was first up of Ireland’s boxers today, meeting Azerbaijan’s Nazarov Bilalhabasi in bout 4 of Ring A’s Afternoon Session. Scott put in a valiant performance, but the 5-0 decision went to the Azerbaijani boxer – 29:28; 30:27; 30:27; 30:27; 30:27. In Bout 8 of the same ring and session, 60kg Jack Jonson boxec Djemmal Mohamed Ali Djamel of France. He exits the tournament after a UD. Judges scored the bout 27:30; 27:30; 28:29; 27:30; 28:29.

33 countries and 330 boxers are contesting the competition, in Porec, Croatia. Participation federations are Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, IBA – B, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, England, Estonia, France, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and Ukraine

Semi Finals

6 Ireland boxers will vie to up-grade their medals in Friday’s semi finals. First up, in Bout 3 of Ring B’s Afternoon Session is 52kg Grace Conway Dowling – she boxes Madalina Grabucea of Italy for a place in the finals. In Bout 7 of the same ring and session, Team Co-Captain 63kg Ava Rose Henry contests against Poland’s Kinga Krowka to change the colour of her medal. In the subsequent bout (Bout 8), 66kg Kyla Doyle Byrne meets Italy’s Annamaria Del Giorno in her semi final.

In Ring A’s Evening Session, 71kg Tadgh O’Donnell is in against John Joe Carrigan of England. In Ring B’s Bout 6, 63.5kg Ryan Jenkins boxes Ukraine’s Artur Kuzmenko. Team Co-Captain, 92+kg Adam Olaniyan also meets opposition, in the form of Oleksandr Sliesariev.

Afternoon Sessions begin at 1pm, and Evening Sessions at 5.30pm.
