The deadline for returning the ‘IABA Special Equipment Grant’ form is approaching.
So far, over 150 clubs have successfully completed and submitted applications to receive equipment worth €1,000 through the IABA Special Equipment Grant. A list of the clubs who have submitted these applications is attached.
Every successfully affiliated club in the Republic of Ireland for season 2021/22 can receive this gifted equipment. To receive this equipment,the attached form must be completed in full, signed (original signatures) and returned to info@iaba.ie by 5pm on Friday, March 31st.
The equipment includes:
Ergo Club Jumbo Kit Holdalls x 2 per club
8 x Ergo Leather Skipping Ropes
4 x Ergo Leather Training Headguards
4 x 16oz Ergo Leather Gym Sparring Gloves
1 x Set of Marker Cones (x 50)
2 x Leather Focus Pads

This allocation is possible through IABA’s successful application to Sport Ireland Targeted Equipment (SITE) 2021 grant. The award was made following an application submitted by the IABA staff team.
The funding is designed to enable clubs to rebuild their equipment stores and to facilitate growing clubs in providing training to new members.
The equipment will be delivered to an appropriate delivery address provided by your club, by Ergo and may only be used in by club members participating in boxing training. It is envisioned that Ergo will begin distributing equipment on IABA’s behalf in the second quarter of 2022.
The women’s semi finals took place in today’s afternoon session. 54kg Niamh Fay, a former European Youth champ, put in an assured and confident performance against her opponent, England’s Grace Olivia Holmes and came away with a unanimous decision win.
Team Co-Captain, light middleweight Lisa O’Rourke was dominant throughout her bout with Israel’s Lia Pukkila and also claimed a unanimous decision win.
Welterweight, Kaci Rock, took on Stefanie Ger Berge of Germany, and came out the wrong side of a split decision. Kaci comes home having claimed a European U22 Championship bronze medal.
Middleweight and former European Youth gold medalist, Aoibhe Carabine, took on Barbara Marcinkowska of Poland in a bout which included a standing count in the first round for the Polish boxer. Aoibhe won that bout by unanimous decision.

The men’s semi finals took place in today’s evening session and first up for Team Ireland was bantamweight, Dylan Eagleson. He took on Samet Gumus of Turkey, and found himself on the wrong side of a split decision following a valiant performance.
Paul Loonam faced Ukrainian opposition in Maksym Vlasiuk, and also leaves the tournament following a split decision. Dylan and Paul both come home with bronze medals.
Heavyweight, Jack Marley, now a two time European U22 medalist, was dominant throughout his evening session bout against Turkey’s Emir Buyukdag.
The tournament is on a rest day on Monday. Lisa, Aoibhe and Niamh will box in the women’s semi finals on Tuesday, from 1pm, Irish Time.
Lisa O’Rourke will take on Daria Parada of Poland in Bout 5 of the Afternoon Session. Niamh Fay meets Sharon Prisco of Italy in Bout 2 of the Evening Session and Aoibhe Carabine takes on Ukrainian Karolina Makhno in But 5 of the Evening Session.
Jack contests the men’s finals, which take place from 1pm on Wednesday. He will face Roberto Lizzi of Italy in the last bout of the tournament, bout 8 on Wednesday’s evening session.

Three more Team Ireland boxers have won at least bronze medals at the European U22 Championships in Porec, Croatia, today.Lightweight Paul Loonam put in a dominant, assured and confident performance in his bout with Simone Spada of Italy, coming away with a 5-0 decision and a bronze medal. Likewise, bantamweight Dylan Eagleson claimed a 5-0 decision win over Jakub Krzpiet of Poland.

49kg Padraig Downey made his tournament debut against Buglarian Ergyunal Sebahtin, and his interest in the competition ended with a 5-0 decision in favour of his opponent.
Flyweight Clepson dos Santos contested strongly against Azerbaijan’s Nijat Huseynov, but the Azerbaijan boxer came away with the unanimous decision. Barry O’Connor lost to Ioan Croft of Wales on a 5-0 split, following a valiant performance

The 2022 Junior 1 Championship Finals will be proceeded The IABA’s marking of the National Ceremony of Remembrance and Reflection.
A 10 bell salute will be followed by a moment of silence and reflection to remember all those who have lost their lives during the Covid 19 pandemic, and pay tribute to everyone who has contributed to how we have faced, and are facing, the challenges together.
