Ray Moylette opens his bid to qualify for Rio 2016 at approximately 9.30pm (Irish time) tomorrow night in Vargas, Venezuela.

The tournament, which will feature 79 boxers across the ten weights and which is open to pro fighters, began today.

Moylette meets Armenian light-welter Hovhannes Backrov in the last-eight.

Eight Irish boxers – Katie Taylor, Paddy Barnes, Brendan Irvine, Michael Conlan, David Oliver Joyce, Steven Donnelly, Michael O’Reilly and Joe Ward – have qualified so far.

Team Ireland depart for Rio later this month.If Moylette wins two fights in Venezuela nine Irish boxers will be on the plane to the 31st Olympiad.
