Keylan Cassidy advanced at the World Elites in Belgrade, Serbia tonight.
The Irshi light heavyweight beat Tajikistan’s Shabbas Negmatulloev on a unanimous decision to book his ticket into the quarter-finals.
Cassidy lost the first round 3-2 but won rounds two and three 4-1 to progress after what Dom O’Rourke, President of the IABA, described as a special performance.
He’ll now meet and opponent to be confirmed tomorrow just one win away from at least bronze at the 105-nation tournament.
The Irish champion has won two fights so far.
