6 Team Ireland boxers are in action on Day Two of the European Junior Championships today.
The tournament, being contested by 353 boxers, is being hosted by the Italian Boxing Federation in Montelsilvano. The competitor nations are: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Scotland, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and Ukraine.
Light bantam weight, Carlagh Peake, opened proceedings in bout 3 in the Ring A afternoon session, against Niamh Lorna Mitchell of Scotland and her interest in the tournament ends following a 5-0 decision in favour of the Scottish boxer. Judges scored the bout: 28:29, 28:29 27:30, 28:29, 27:30.
In bout 8, featherweight Siofra Lawless met Germany’s Mia Penelope Grochau and came away with a unimous decision win – 30:27, 30:26, 30:27, 30:27, 30:27.
In bout 10, lightweight Ava Henry boxed Katrin Ivanovova of the Czech Republic and progresses following a 3-2 split decision win. The bout was scored 28:29, 29:28, 28:29, 27:30, 29:28.
In Ring B’s afternoon session, in bout 11, Alfie Jordan (44-46kg) met Germany’s Emal Hamdan. The Irish boxer is through to the next round following a 5-0 win. The judges scored the bout 30:26, 30:26, 30:26

In Ring A’s evening session, 80kg Jack Teggart Weatherall contested against Germany’s Sofian Bizzit and the decision went in favour of the German boxer – 30:27, 30:27, 29:28, 30:27, 30:27. In the opening bout in Ring B, light welter Kayleigh Whelan boxed Hungary’s Victoria Kat Muncz. Kayleigh is through to the next round following a 3-2 split decision win, 29:28, 27:30, 29:28, 28:29, 29:28.
75kg Mary McDonagh is already assured of at least a bronze medal – she begins her competition at the semi-final stage.
7 Team Ireland boxers are between the ropes on Day Three.
Light fly, Jamie Collins, contests against Moldova’s Ion Peni in bout 3 of Ring A’s afternoon session. That will be followed, in bout 11, but the meeting of featherweight, Callum Carragher and Morina Rexhep (KOS).
In the afternoon session of Ring B, flyweight, Calvin Doyle, contests against Moldova’s Volodymyr Melenchuk in bout 5. In bout 11, lightweight, Ryan Jenkins meets Israel’s Abdallah Rahal.
In Ring A’s evening session, light bantam John Harty boxes Moldova’s Nichita Simanschii in bout 7. Cillian Reilly Lennon is in action against Croatia’s Bernard Grgic in Bout 14, at light welter.
In Ring B’s bout 8, James Kelly meets Greece’s Thomas Boditsoploulos and in bout 16, welterweight Tadhg O’Donnell contests against England’s Callum Walsh.
