Ireland and Wales went down to the wire for the second day running at today’s Youth and Junior meeting at the Cardiff Sports Centre.
Both nations drew 4-4 at the same venue yesterday and were tied at 3-3 going into the final bout this afternoon.
Dublin light-welter Matthew Tyndall, however, got the nod on a 3-2 split to help Ireland to a 4-3 win and a 8-7 aggregate victory over the two days.
Tyndall’s had his hand raised in victory over Paddy Murphy after a treble countback.
“You’ll probably never see that again (treble countback),” said Irish team manager Eugene Duffy.”We saw some fantastic boxing from both sides over the last two days in a high-quality international between two very committed and talented sides.
“A big thank you to the Wales Boxing Association for their hospitality over the two days.”
Martin Collins, Chloe Gabriel and Suffie Edris won today. Dylan Eagleson picked up a slight hand injury on Saturday and did not box this afternoon.
John Gallagher, Liam Cunningham and Nicole Meli worked Ireland’s corner in Cardiff and Paul Mayse was the Irish R&J.
The Irish squad are scheduled to arrive home at 8pm this evening via Dublin Airport.
