Team Ireland capped off a highly successful European U22 Championship campaign in Porec, Croatia, this evening with a gold medal for 19-year-old heavyweight and now two-time European medallist, Dublin’s Jack Marley.

Jack’s victory over Italy’s Roberto Lizzi was a unanimous one in the last bout of the tournament. Jack is a team Co-Captain.

Bronze medals were today also bestowed on bantamweight, Dylan Eagleson, and lightweight, Paul Loonam.

Today’s Men’s Finals followed the Women’s Finals on Tuesday, in which the team claimed 2 gold medals and a silver.

Team Co-Captain, light middleweight Lisa O’Rourke, sister of Olympian and Strandja champion Aoife, won a 4-1 split decision in her final with Daria Parada of Poland. Ireland’s second women’s gold came courtesy of former European Youth champion, 54kg Niamh Fay. She claimed a 5-0 win over Italy’s Sharon Prisco.

Team Ireland’s silver medal came courtesy of middleweight, Aoibhe Carabine, and followed her final against Ukrainian Karolina Makhno, and a 5-0 decision in favour of her opponent.

The women’s team finished joint 2nd in the tournament’s medals rankings and 3rd out of 24 countries in the team rankings. Turkey and Italy were in first and second, respectively.

Men’s medal rankings and team standings have yet to be released.
