9 Team Ireland boxers win through to World Youth Championships Quarter Finals.

9 Team Ireland boxers will now contest World Youth Championship Quarter finals, following the completion of action on Day Six in La Nucia.

Heavyweight, David McDonagh took on Uzbekistan’s Aynazar Kenesbaev in bout 11 of Ring A’s morning session; he leaves the competition following a 5-0 decision in favour of his opponent. In Ring B, featherweight Rebecca Kavanagh openned proceedings against Japan’s Aki Yamazaki, and progresses by way of a second round RSC win.

In Ring B’s afternoon session, flyweight Esther Lambe met India’s Satyajit Devika Ghorpade in bout 5; that bout ended in a round three RSC which favoured the India boxer, while in bout 7, welterweight Gabrielle Mongan boxed Venuzuela’s Juliannys Nazare Alvarez Franco, and leaves the competition following 4-1 split decision in favour of her opponent

In Ring A’s evening session, featherweight Roy Farrelly was back in action for this third contest, against Uzbekistan’s Bakhtiyor Asadov and his interest in the tournament ends following a 3-2 decision in favour of his opponent. In bout 5, clubmate, lightweight Lee McEvoy took on Cuba’s Pol Liexter Cantero – he came out the right side of the split, and wins forward.

Quarter Finals – Day One

There are two days of Quarter Finals at the tournament, the first of which will be boxed on Monday. 6 Team Ireland boxers will vie for podium places.

Bantamweight Gavin Ryan opens proceedings, taking on Uzbekistan in bout 10 of Ring B’s afternoon session. That will be followed by the bout 11 meeting of Team Co-Captain Jim Donovan and Iraq’s Naeem Hussein Hussein Yousif. In bout 12, cruiserweight Nathan Ojo contests against Egypt’s Ibra Naeim Mohamed Hamza Tamin.

In the evening session, Team Co-Captain, light heavy Dearbhla Tinnelly makes her tournament debut against Romania’s Maria Gheorghita Cimpoeru in bout 5. Middleweight TJ King takes on Belgium’s Hadit Noa in Bout 10.

Light middle Laura Moran meets home boxer, Daniela Irina Llorente Golai, in bout 3 in ring B.

Lightweight Lee McEvoy is back in action, for his fourth bout of the tournament. He meets Carlos Jamil De Leon Castro of Puerto Rico in bout 7 of Ring A’s afternoon session.

Featherweight, Rebecca Kavanagh, takes on England’s Emily Whitworth in bout 5 of Ring B’s afternoon session.

In the evening, session, Cliona D’arcy makes her tournament debut against Lithuania’sAglinskaite Kamile in bout 5 of Ring A’s evening session.
