6 Team Ireland boxers win through to European Junior Championship finals.

10 Team Ireland boxers contest their semi finals at the European Junior Championships in Italy today – 6 go forward to Tuesday’s finals and 4 with come home with bronze medals

44-46kg Sophie Curley Gray (Dealgan) was first between the ropes, contesting against Turkey’s Eylul Rabia Duman. The final scores were *28:28, *28:28, 29:27, 27:29, 29:27. Following two scores on two judges cards, the Turkish boxer was selected as they preferred winner, and a 4-1 decision. Sophie comes home with a bronze medal.

Flyweight Grace Conway Dowling (Tredagh) also met Turkish opposition in her bout, in Humeyra Balta. Grace recorded a 5-0 win, and a place in the finals. The final score was 30:26, 30:25, 29:27, 30:27, 30:27. She meets England’s Catherine Alice Pumphrey in Bout 3 of the afternoon session of Tuesday’s finals

Next up was bantam weight, Niamh Keogh (Olympic L), who contested against Croatia’s Lana Paljusic. Niamh came away with a 5-0 decision (30:27,30:27, 30:26, 30:27, 30:27). She boxes her final against England’s Ella Mae Lonsdale in Bout 5 of Tuesday’s afternoon session.

60kg Ava Henry (Docklands) met home boxer, Ginevra Muzzi; the scoreline of 30:27, 30:27, 30:27, 30:27
29:28 and the 5-0 decision sees Ava through to the finals, where she meets Poland’s Kinga Krowka in Bout 7 of the afternoon session.

75kg Mary McDonagh (Sliabh Luachra) contested against Turkey’s Eylul Tusen Onem. Mary, boxing out of the blue corner, recorded a 5-0 win. The judges scored the bout 27:30, 28:29, 27:30, 27:30, 27:30. She meets Ukraine’s Anastasiia Taran in Tuesday final, which takes place at Bout 10.

44-46kg Alfie Jordan (Olympic L) boxed his semi final against England’s Thomas John Varey. The English boxer was the 5-0 winner (29:28, 29:28, 29:28, 29:28, 30:27). Alfie comes home with a bronze medal.

52kg John Harty (Portlaoise) boxed Armenia’s Erik Armstamyan. John comes home with bronze, following a 3-0 decision in favour of his opponent – 29:27, 29:27, 28:28, 29:27, 28:28.

66kg Tadhg O’Donnell (Four Kings) boxed Italy’s Francesco Savarese in his semi final. Tadhg was the 5-0 victor (26:30, 27:30, 27:30, 27:30, 27:30) and contests his final against Poland’s Pawel Fabian Urbankski in the evening session’s 10th bout

In today’s semi final evening session, 48kg Jamie Collins (Drimnagh) took on England’s Riza Mohammad Riza and progresses to Tuesday’s finals following a 3-2 split decision win – 28:29, 28:29, 29:28, 28:29
30:26. He meets home boxer, Antonio Fortunato Marsala in bout 3 of the finals evening session

63kg Cillian Reilly Lennon (Jobstown) fought Greece’s Emmanouil Fotiadis. Cillian comes home with bronze following a Round 2 RSC.

Team Ireland is ranked 3rd out of 32 countries in the overall medals table; joint second in the girl’s medals table, and joint 3rd in the boy medals tables. In all, 353 boxers are contesting the tournament on Montelsilvano
