4 Ireland boxers have won through to the European Youth Championship Finals.

52kg Grace Conway Dowling go the action underway in today’s semi finals, boxing Madalina Grabucea of Italy. She is assured now of at least a silver medal, following a 4-1 split win. Judges scored the bout 29:28; 27:30; 27:30; 27:30; 28:29.

Team Co-Captain 63kg Ava Rose Henry contested against Poland’s Kinga Krowka to change the colour of her medal and succeeded, in style with a 5-0 decision. The judges scores were: 30:27; 30:27; 30:27; 29:28; 29:28. In the subsequent bout, 66kg Kyla Doyle Byrne met Italy’s Annamaria Del Giorno in her semi final. She was similarly decisive, with a 5-0 win on a scoreline of 27:30; 27:30; 26:30; 27:30; 27:30.

Team Co-Captain, 92+kg Adam Olaniyan met Ukrainian opposition, in the form of Oleksandr Sliesariev. After a tense wait for a bout-reviewed decision, his hand was raised and a 4-3 win result declared. Judges scored the bout 28:29; 29:28; 30:27; 28:29; 28:29.

Coming home with bronze medals after excellent campaigns are 71kg Tadgh O’Donnell, who boxed his semi final against John Joe Carrigan of England (5-0, 29:28; 29:28; 29:28; 30:26; 30:27) and 63.5kg Ryan Jenkins, who contested against Ukraine’s Artur Kuzmenko (5-0; 29:28; 29:28; 29:28; 30:26; 30:27)

33 countries and 330 boxers are contesting the competition, in Porec, Croatia. Participation federations are Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, IBA – B, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, England, Estonia, France, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and Ukraine.

Ireland has a highly successful recent history at the tournament – the 2022 team won more medals at this competition that any other Team Ireland Youth squad contesting a European level tournament. They came home with 3 gold for Team Co-Captain, 71kg Bobbi Flood, 81kg Dearbhla Tinnelly and 81+kg Cliona D’arcy, a silver for 70kg Laura Moran and 3 bronze for 48kg boxers Georgia Dunn McGovern and Patsy Joyce, 50kg Katie O’Keeffe, and 63kg Winnie McDonagh.

Saturday is a rest day at the tournament.

52kg Grace Conway Dowling is first up on Sunday, contesting in Bout 3 of the Afternoon Session – she fights for gold against Taisiia Pokusai of Ukraine. Team Co-Captain 63kg Ava Henry steps between the ropes in Bout 6, against Ukraine’s Yulia Stupakova. In the subsequent bout, 66kg Kyla Doyle Byrne takes on Romania’s Amalia Tugui.

63.5kg Ryan Jenkins assured himself of at least a bronze, following his5-0 win over Greece’s Emmanouil Fotiadis. Judges scored the bout 26:29; 26:29; 26:29; 25:30; 25:30. Bout 6 of Ring B’s Evening Session, 71kg Tadhg O’Donnell stepped between the ropes to contest against Armenia’s Marat Mikaelyan, and finished the bout with a podium place following a UD. Judges scored the bout 28:29; 27:30; 28:29; 27:30; 27:30.

48kg Scott Thompson was first up of Ireland’s boxers today, meeting Azerbaijan’s Nazarov Bilalhabasi in bout 4 of Ring A’s Afternoon Session. Scott put in a valiant performance, but the 5-0 decision went to the Azerbaijani boxer – 29:28; 30:27; 30:27; 30:27; 30:27. In Bout 8 of the same ring and session, 60kg Jack Jonson boxec Djemmal Mohamed Ali Djamel of France. He exits the tournament after a UD. Judges scored the bout 27:30; 27:30; 28:29; 27:30; 28:29.

The Irish Athletic Boxing Association (IABA) is the governing body of Ireland’s most successful Olympic Sport, and is home to 400 clubs, county boards and provincial units.

We are seeking a dynamic and results-oriented Membership Services Manager to join our team to lead the implementation of our membership plan and roadmap, alongside the CEO. The ideal candidate will be passionate about membership, highly creative, and possess excellent management and planning skills.

This role will require a multi-tasker who has strong organizational and communication effective planning, CRM and project management experience, proficient computer literacy and a willingness to take on a range of administrative tasks to raise to gold standard IABA’s services to members.

Role PurposeThe role will be responsible for managing, developing and enhancing the day to day running of Membership Services to ensure all those engaging with IABA have a first-class experience. The role is also responsible for the accuracy of the data on the IABA database (which includes the current and past member records) and to provide support to volunteers and IABA staff. Management of all aspects of the annual club, county board and provincial unit affiliation process. Please note the job will require some flexible working hours, including occasional evening and weekend work.
Key AccountabilitiesTo update the company CRM system, ensuring streamlined processes and systems to guarantee a high-quality experience for our members & volunteers. To oversee the day-to-day support and management of regional volunteers across the country in-line with IABA policies, procedures, services & systems. Person SpecificationEssential:  Minimum two years’ experience in managing, developing, and enhancing membership, volunteer, or customer services.  Understanding and awareness of individual and club membership within a sporting environment.  A minimum of one year’s project management experience, to drive the establishment of a new CRM Experience in setting goals, targets and measures, and subsequent implementation plans, particularly in relation to commercialisation & CRM development Comfortable operating in a fast-changing and challenging environment with excellent people / relationship management skills and the ability to influence and engage.  Track record in the successful management of budgets, volunteers and staff including their ongoing development.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Along with appropriate IT skills, specifically Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.    Experience of writing high-level reports, policies and strategies, particularly in relation to the practical implementation of good governance within a national sporting or third sector organisation Experience using insight and research methods to help better understand customer or membership behaviour, and apply learnings to improve future work A demonstratable understanding of the need to co-produce / collaborate with stakeholders and impact of same.
Person SpecificationDesirable:  Knowledge of amateur boxing, including technical rules and competitions.  Be able to demonstrate creativity and the instigation and production of innovative and cost-effective development programmes.  A degree in a relevant subject. Hold a full Driving Licence and access to a vehicle. The role may require travel throughout the country for meetings/events and work unsocial hours including evenings and weekends (as required).

Hours of Work

40 hours per week, with flexible scheduling of hours. 

The employee will not normally receive any additional payment for hours worked in excess of 40 hours per week, but may be permitted to take time off in lieu of such excess hours worked, if agreed with the line manager.

Annual Leave

The association’s leave year runs from January 1st to December 31st. The employee will be entitled to pro-rata 21 days leave per annum plus 10 statutory bank holidays. Excess hours can be taken during a holiday period, after agreement with your line manager.

The employee is required to retain a minimum of 3 days leave to cover the Association’s Christmas shutdown period.

Ireland’s European Youth Championship medal tally has risen to four. Ireland’s first two medals of the tournament came yesterday, courtesy of Team Co-Captain and European Junior champ, 63kg Ava Henry and 66kg Kyla Doyle Byrne.

52kg Grace Conway Dowling performed a complete turn-around in her Quarter Final against Poland’s Martyna Koczkodaj. After losing the first round, she claimed at least a bronze medal following her 2nd and 3rd round performances. Her 5-2 win came following a bout review, with both evaluators finding in her favour. Judges scored the bout 29:28; 29:28; 28:29; 28:29; 29:28. In the Evening Session, Team Co-Captain 92+kg Adam Olaniyan was in against Turkey’s Baran Celik in a testy bout, of which Adam won the first two rounds on all judges’ cards. He wins a podium place following a Round 3 RSC of his opponent.

48kg Tiffany Spencer took on England’s Ruby White and contested valiantly, but the 5-0 decision went to her opponent. Judges scored the bout 30:24; 30:26; 30:26; 30:25; 30:25. 54kg Nicole Kinsella’s brave contest against France’s Maloe Teresi ended in a Round 3 RSC.
